Hello there.

This is my page where I will attempt to draw together in one place the disparate bits of myself that are out there. And as there seems to be more and more bits scattered about, this might take some work.

I am a recovering academic.

I am writing a Substack that is a continuation of that work, Monsters, Machines, Messiahs, and also a cultural history of vampires at This Sucks.

I used to work as a Research Fellow at Sheffield Robotics and the Department of Computer Science at the University of Sheffield. I still actively research in the cultural and social impacts of robotics and AI and am available to discuss these matters in any capacity in which you feel like I could be useful.

I am a co-founder of a robotics start-up, which is now called OLO Robotics, and gets on quite happily without my continued involvement.

I am an ice hockey coach. I am presently the Head Coach of the Sheffield Bears Universities IHC, Sheffield Shadows Women’s IHC and GB Students’ Women’s Team. I have previously served as Head Coach, too, of the GB Students’ Men’s Team, who competed at the FISU World Games in Lake Placid in 2023.

I have three children, 2 cats and a cocker spaniel named Freddie.
